I am available to provide lessons in music theory to anyone
over the age of ten.
I teach the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) syllabus, one of the most established and regarded syllabuses taught all over the world.
Theory lessons deal with the mechanics of music and the way it is written down. Dealing with values of notes and rests, to rhythm, harmony and counterpoint, learning music theory opens up a world of printed music to you, whether you play an instrument or not. Taking theory lessons also informs any instrumental lessons you may be taking, and indeed passing ABRSM Grade 5 in Theory is a prerequisite for entry to any ABRSM Grade 6, 7, or 8 exam. Theory exams can also lead to lessons in composition.
Should you not want to take ABRSM exams, I am still perfectly happy to teach the above techniques, although I believe that the exams give any pupil something to aim for and a focus for the lessons, but whether a pupil enters an exam at any grade is up to the pupil.
Rates are competative and I am currently able to take pupils.
